<title>DESCRIPTION</title>
<para>
The GNOME Speech contains a standard API for communicating with various text-to-speech engines.
It hides the differences in the implementation, API, and markups used by the various engines
by defining an API that accommodates all the standard features of most speech engines,
and some of the more obscure features supported by some engines.
</para>
<para>
And GNOME Speech driver(like freetts-synthesis-driver)implementations proxy the standard API,
which is defined in IDL, to the various commands and markup language of a particular engine(like freetts).
</para>
<para>
This commond is building GNOME Speech driver for eSpeak engine.
The GNOME Speech driver for eSpeak will be built if the eSpeak libraries are found in the standard locations.
If the eSpeak software is installed in a nonstandard location,
you can specify the root of the eSpeak installation with the --with-espeak-dir option.
