10139N/A<
para>GnomeVFS is a filesystem abstraction library which gives applications
10139N/Aplugable transparent access to a variety of "real" filesystems, from WebDAV
10139N/Ato digital cameras, to the local filesystem. It also contains a number of
10139N/Aother convenient file utilities such as a comprehensive MIME database / Application
10139N/Aregistry, and a copy engine. Use of GnomeVFS also ensures that an application
10139N/Aor component will be usable by Nautilus or other GnomeVFS applications for
10139N/Ahandling the display of data from various URIs.</
para>
10139N/A<
para>Besides providing transparent access to data methods that you might
10139N/Aotherwise have to implement, GnomeVFS provides a number of convenient libraries
10139N/Afor processing URIs, detecting the MIME type of files, and identifying which
10139N/Aapplications or components to launch to view a file or what icon to use. Writing
10139N/Aa GnomeVFS module may also be an appropriate solution to some data access
10139N/Aproblems as it allows the developer to implement a relatively small number
10139N/Aof functions to gain general filesystem semantics.</
