2280N/A
Summary

2280N/A
2280N/A
This module requires the service of
mod_proxy
. It provides the features used for
2280N/A proxying HTTP and HTTPS requests.
mod_proxy_http

2655N/A supports HTTP/0.9, HTTP/1.0 and HTTP/1.1. It does not
2280N/A provide any caching abilities. If you want to set up a caching
2280N/A proxy, you might want to use the additional service of the
2280N/A
mod_cache
module.

2280N/A
2280N/A
Thus, in order to get the ability of handling HTTP proxy requests,
2280N/A
mod_proxy
and
mod_proxy_http

2280N/A have to be present in the server.

2280N/A
2280N/A

Warning

2280N/A
Do not enable proxying until you have secured your server. Open proxy

2655N/A
Environment Variables

2280N/A
In addition to the configuration directives that control the
2280N/A behaviour of
mod_proxy
, there are a number of
2280N/A <dfn>environment variables</dfn> that control the HTTP protocol
2280N/A provider:

2280N/A

2655N/A
proxy-sendextracrlf

2655N/A
Causes proxy to send an extra CR-LF newline on the end of a
2280N/A request. This is a workaround for a bug in some browsers.

2280N/A
force-proxy-request-1.0

2280N/A
Forces the proxy to send requests to the backend as HTTP/1.0
2280N/A and disables HTTP/1.1 features.

2280N/A
proxy-nokeepalive

2280N/A
Forces the proxy to close the backend connection after
2280N/A each request.

2280N/A
proxy-chain-auth

2280N/A
If the proxy requires authentication, it will read and
2280N/A consume the proxy authentication credentials sent by the client.
2280N/A With <var>proxy-chain-auth</var> it will also forward
2280N/A the credentials to the next proxy in the chain. This may
2280N/A be necessary if you have a chain of proxies that share
2280N/A authentication information. Security Warning:
2280N/A Do not set this unless you know you need it, as it forwards
2280N/A sensitive information!

2280N/A
proxy-sendcl

2280N/A
HTTP/1.0 required all HTTP requests that include a body
2280N/A (e.g. POST requests) to include a <var>Content-Length</var>
2280N/A header. This environment variable forces the Apache proxy to
2280N/A send this header to the backend server, regardless of what the
2280N/A Client sent to the proxy. It ensures compatibility when
2280N/A proxying for an HTTP/1.0 or unknown backend. However, it
2280N/A may require the entire request to be buffered by the proxy,
2280N/A so it becomes very inefficient for large requests.

2280N/A
proxy-sendchunks or proxy-sendchunked

2280N/A
This is the opposite of <var>proxy-sendcl</var>. It allows
2280N/A request bodies to be sent to the backend using chunked transfer
2280N/A encoding. This allows the request to be efficiently streamed,
2280N/A but requires that the backend server supports HTTP/1.1.

2280N/A
proxy-interim-response

2280N/A
This variable takes values
RFC
(the default) or
2280N/A
Suppress
. Earlier httpd versions would suppress
2280N/A HTTP interim (1xx) responses sent from the backend. This is
2280N/A technically a violation of the HTTP protocol. In practice,
2280N/A if a backend sends an interim response, it may itself be
2280N/A extending the protocol in a manner we know nothing about,
2280N/A or just broken. So this is now configurable: set
2280N/A
proxy-interim-response RFC
to be fully protocol
2280N/A compliant, or
proxy-interim-response Suppress

2280N/A to suppress interim responses.

2280N/A
proxy-initial-not-pooled

2280N/A
If this variable is set no pooled connection will be reused
2280N/A if the client connection is an initial connection. This avoids
2280N/A the "proxy: error reading status line from remote server" error message
2280N/A caused by the race condition that the backend server closed the
2280N/A pooled connection after the connection check by the proxy and
2280N/A before data sent by the proxy reached the backend. It has to be
2280N/A kept in mind that setting this variable downgrades performance,
2280N/A especially with HTTP/1.0 clients.
2280N/A
